Observation 1st Visit
- Low tide
- Less bigger fish
- More of the smaller fish were jumping around
- Distance from the plants to the surface of the water was further away
- Birds were cruising around the waters
2nd Visit
- High Tide
- More bigger fish
- About the same amount of smaller fish were
- Distance from plants to the surface of the water was closer
- More birds were surrounding the water
These observations were pretty the same as previous observations. Therefore, we can see that this place is quite consistent when it comes to the amount of fishes in the ocean and the size of the fishes.
Experiment If the tide is at a higher point, then the plants will not act as a source of protection because the distance from the wall/plant will be a shorter distance. Therefore, there will be less amount of fish because the birds will have an easier access to the fish.
For this experiment I wanted to find out if the tide will affect the protection role the plant plays for fish from birds in this ecosystem. From the observations I made from the 4 visits I made I found out that there were in fact more fishes in the area by the plants when the tide was higher. The fish count when it was low tide was about 50 fishes and when it was high tide it was about 75. I literally had to count these fish but it might have not been accurate because I may have counted the same fish twice.The birds were in the the beach park area as I expected but they did not seem to have an interest towards the fish by the plants. Rather the birds stayed by the shore sides of the beach. Perhaps because it was an easier access to the fishes by the shore. The plants may also could have given off a chemical reaction which told the birds to get away from the area or something will happen to you.
Procedure I only had to make observations on how many fish there were in the area by the plants. But I also had to make sure that the tides were at different on the 2 visits that I had made. So before going to the beach I looked at the tide chart that my dad had provided for me and then took off the the beach park, located at Aina Haina. Conclusion
Through this experiment, I figured out that my hypothesis was proven wrong. I thought the plants would not act as a source of protection during a higher tide but it actually did. Resulting in more fish by the plant area but less fish in the area by the shore, due to the birds predating in the shore area. Data Table

Carbon Cycle
In our ecosystem the carbon cycle goes through a lot of organisms and objects. First the sun provides energy for the plants to perform photosynthesis and then the plants give off oxygen for the organisms to breathe. In return the organisms give off carbon through cellular respiration, which the plants also use to perform photosynthesis. The plants and animals also give off waste, which effects the carbon cycle by increasing the amount of carbon dioxide. Plants also give off carbon through cellular respiration but it helps to balance out the gas emmisions in the air. This diagram shows the carbon cycle through the ecosystem.
